Extensive Utility Infrastructure Renewal Works Carried Out by Pillar Contractor Completed at the Opera

Energy efficiency improvement and engineering systems renewal works have been completed at the Latvian National Opera.

The scope of work was particularly extensive. During the project, more than 40 kilometres of electrical wiring were installed, along with approximately four kilometres of heating pipes, three kilometres of cold and hot water pipes, and more than one kilometre of sewage pipes. Wall and ceiling surfaces were also restored, and light fixtures matching the historic interior were installed. As a result, the microclimate, energy efficiency, and working environment of the historic building have been significantly improved.

In addition to the works planned within the project, the restoration of the historic interior on the building’s parterre floor is still ongoing. The interior is being gradually restored with particular care, including the installation of wallpaper and floor tiling. Full completion of these works is planned by the beginning of the new season.

The aim of the project is to preserve and develop an important cultural heritage site — the historic building of the Latvian National Opera, an architectural monument of national significance — while improving its energy efficiency and ensuring its sustainable operation in the future. During the building’s restoration, special attention was paid to preserving its historical authenticity, respecting the original materials, technologies, and historic construction methods.

The implementation of the project is financed from European Union programme funds, as well as from the own resources of VSIA “Latvijas Nacionālā opera un balets”.

The cost of the Latvian National Opera building development project amounted to EUR 12.5 million.
